Somerset and Exmoor - 27th of March

We decided to use up some holiday on a trip down to the South West of England. Our first stop was Watchet in Somerset, a small town with a beautiful harbour and interesting history. John Short was a Watchet local who earned the nickname 'Yankee Jack' by running the blockade in the American Civil War. Next we visited Tarr Steps in Exmoor where myth has it that the Devil owns sunbathing rights ;-) Eager to test out our new North Face hiking boots Carolyn and I set off on a beautiful five mile jaunt along the River Barle, careful to cross the bridge without offending the Devil.

As we continued our drive to Lynton we stopped off in Dunster to see the beautiful houses, ancient yarn market and imposing castle. After checking in at the B&B in England's Little Switzerland we drove down the hill to Lynmouth where I was completely soaked on the end of the pier whilst Carolyn had a narrow escape (see photo). We finished off the day with a superb freshly caught fish dinner at the Rising Sun Pub - perfect.
